Goths of Yule! Tattoos and Christmas Shopping
Share
I feel a bit uncomfortable chatting about Christmas / Yule before December comes... but that's not the world we live in anymore! My household is trying to convince me that putting our decorations up on 30th November is a good idea. It's not.
Anyway, I waited until the pumpkins had rotted, and until we'd stopped burning effigies of freedom fighters on the bonfires; but now it's time.
In 2024 I ran a Pop Up Shop in my friend's tattoo shop, Dead Slow in Brighton, during the summer and we called it "Goths of Summer". That was the first pop up I'd ever tried to run and it went better than I ever expected, and was very popular with the seaside crowd. I approached some of my best market friends and tried to curate something that would offer a broad spectrum of the dark art scene in a compact space. Alongside that the crew of Dead Slow were taking walk-ins all day and were busy all day in the basement upgrading customer's flesh prisons.
Since then, I haven't run another. The alternative market scene continues to grow and there have been more and more markets popping up to the point that I lost some confidence in what I could offer. However, I realised I was overthinking things (classically Caroline). Goths of Summer was a beautiful day and I got to spend it with some of the most talented artists I know. The day meant I could connect my closest friends from the market world, and my closest friends in the tattoo world and share that with people. Lots of people have asked if I would organise another, but I missed the window for another summer event.
So, here comes Goths of Yule! Dead Slow have a new beautiful location with an open, bright ground floor space which we are going to takeover for a Yule themed dark art market. The tattoo artists will be available all day tattooing flash (could there be a better Christmas gift than an impromptu tattoo?!). There's no better way to welcome Krampus and attempt to appease him.

You can find out even more about Goths of Yule here on the Facebook event. I'd also love for you to share it with your friends and invite them along too.
The market traders you'll be able to shop from (as well as myself) are:
- Carpentry Pirate, Vile Eight
- Gothic Queen, Lil Miz Spider
- Inky Fingers, From the Hill
and Folklore Royalty, Myth & Lore. As some of you may be aware we lost our good friend Mark Ryan in the spring. My wonderful friend Ellie, Mark's wife, is doing Goths of Yule the honour of bringing M&L zines and art for us all to browse and take home for the first time since Mark passed.
